Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Inc is non-government organization that accredits undergraduate degree programs of Applied Science, Computing, Engineering and Engineering Technology. It accredits these programs both within USA and overseas. As of October 2011[update], around 3,100 programs are accredited, distributed over more than 660 universities and colleges in 23 countries. It also provides leadership internationally through workshops, consultancies, memoranda of understanding, and mutual recognition agreements and has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) since 1997.
ABET accreditation is voluntary; the request for accreditation is initiated by the institution seeking accreditation. Accreditation is given to individual programs within an institution rather than to the institution as a whole. Programs without previous accreditation can apply for accreditation as long as they have produced at least one program graduate.
In this presentation, paper a brief introduction on ABET process for Computer Science Program will be described with a view to provide needed information to the universities that are planning to accredit their Computer Science undergraduate degree program. This tutorial will provide a detailed discussion and explanation on each of the criteria with a view to get insights of the requirements for them which will help to prepare self-study report. It will also provide step-by-step activities along with the assessment process that needs to be designed, developed and processed on the data collection. In order to understand the entire accreditation process, a case study will be presented and discussed

This tutorial is intended for the faculty, computer scientists, professional who are involved in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation of the curricula.
Dr. Gurdeep S. Hura received his B. E. from Jabalpur University (India) in 1972, M. E. from University of Roorkee (India) in 1975 and Ph.D. from University of Roorkee (India) in 1984, respectively. .
He was on the faculty of REC, Kurukshetra (India) from 1975-1984, a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Computer Science, Concordia University, Montreal, Canada during 1984-1985, faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio (USA) from 1984-1993, faculty and visiting research fellow in the School of Applied Science, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from 1993-1998, Director and coordinator of Department of Computer Science, University of Idaho, Idaho Falls from 1998-2005, Professor and Chair Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Montgomery, West Virginia from Jan 2005-July, 2006, Professor and Chair of Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Maryland Eastern Shore from July 2006-Sept 2011 and a Professor in the same department since Oct 2011. He was awarded excellence teaching award in 1991 and 2001 and excellence in advising in 2003. He is an author/co-author of over hundred technical papers, which were published, in International IEEE journals and refereed conferences. He guest edited three special issues on "Petri nets and related graph models: Past, Present and Future", 1991, “The Practice of Performance modeling and reliability analysis”, 1996, and “Internet: The state of the art”, Computer Communication (Elsevier, UK), 1998. He is a senior member of IEEE and was elevated to Fellow of Society for Design and Process Science in 2002. He has organized tutorials on Computer Networks, Modeling and analysis, Software engineering, Cyber infrastructure, Cyber security and Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation and has presented invited talks on these in various International Conferences. He was a General Chairman of IEEE EMS Singapore in 1995 and has chaired the technical committees of a number of international conferences. He is a member of editorial board, advisory board and international committees of a number of referred journals and conferences.
He supervised 5 Ph.D. dissertations, over 25 MS theses and has been member of Ph.D. external review committees. Currently he is an external committee of a number of Ph.D. committees of different countries. He is co-author of a book on “Data and Computer Communications: Networking and internetworking”, CRC Press, 2001 and written six chapters in computer networks, terrestrial networks, dynamicity in social networks, and related areas. He received an external funding of over $5 M for his research projects in US. He is CAC ABET National and International Program evaluator. He was a consultant to NEC, Inc, Japan on load balancing aspect of its operating system for parallel machine (2000-2004). He has been listed in Marquis' Who's Who in Midwest, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Leading Technology, Who's Who in Emerging Leaders of America, and Who's Who in World.
